Writing Exercise: Speed Posting
How long does it take you to post to your blog?
As time passes and bloggers become involved in more activities, it is vital that they develop routines to help them manage their time in a way that allows them to finish all their blogging tasks for the day, and still have time for their families, friends, and offline jobs if they have them.
It is not uncommon for bloggers to invest a lot of time into writing their posts. It can take anywhere from ten minutes to ten days (or longer) to create a post, depending on the length, how well you know the subject, distractions, and a number of other factors.
The only way to speed this process up is through practice.
How quickly can you type up a new post? It doesn't have to be a 600 word article, but it should still be a quality post in which you clearly state everything it is you wanted to say, and in an organized, easy to read manner.
Here's a simple exercise:
Time yourself when you write. Allow yourself ten minutes to say as much as you can, as clearly as you can. Don't worry too much about mistakes at this point, just get your thoughts and ideas onto the screen.
When your ten minutes is up, stop and examine your work. How much did you get down? And how many typos did you make? Did you manage to type most of what you wanted to say to your readers? And most importantly, how can you improve?
After examining what you've written, now is the time to finish your post, proofread, edit, and finally publish it.
With regular practice, you will become more efficient in your time management, your writing skills will improve, and you will learn to get your ideas out of your head and onto the screen quicker, and with less hassle. It is also a good way to battle writer's block because it requires you to think on your feet and write something, whether it is quality or not, and then you have something to go back and work on.
This isn't always easy to do, but it's definitely a good way to increase your writing proficiency. Give it a try.
