What Kind of Blogs Do Well With Google AdSense?
This guest post was submitted by Lindsay B. of Writing For Your Wealth.
Take a stroll around the blogosphere, and you can find a lot of noses turned up at the idea of using Google Adsense. Some of those upturned noses come from successful bloggers who sell their own products or make big money with independent advertising sales, but some folks just talk smack about AdSense because they tried it and didn't have any success with the program.
The fact is that you can make really good money with AdSense. It's how I got my start making money online more than four years ago, and this year my AdSense earnings inched up into the six figures range. Not bad for someone who works at building sites and posting to blogs part time!
So, what's the secret? What kinds of blogs do well with AdSense?
I'm glad you asked (okay, you didn't, but humor me!). The secret to doing well with AdSense is having a consumer-oriented site.
By that I mean your site should be on a specific niche and tie in closely to products and services that people can buy.
I don't run AdSense on my Writing for Your Wealth blog because there just aren't many big products associated with writing. Oh, sure, there are books, but nobody is paying big money per click to sell a $20 book.
On the other hand, I have AdSense on some of my other blogs and websites where I discuss everything from installing swimming pools and hot tubs to buying home security systems. (Most of my sites fall into the "home and garden" niche.)
The reason AdSense does well on such blogs is because there are definite products tied to these topics. If someone searches for information on hot tubs, it's probably because they're thinking of buying a hot tub. Therefore an advertiser can afford to pay well to have an AdSense link displayed on my site. Hot tubs cost thousands of dollars, so if a company makes a sale thanks to a click from one of my sites, it was well worth the couple of dollars spent on that click.
AdSense isn't the only way to make money from a blog, but in my opinion it's one of the easiest (you don't have to deal with the customer service that comes with selling your own products, and you don't have to interact directly with advertisers, since Google handles that for you), so long as you have the right type of blog.
If your blog is related to shopping, consumer information, or product reviews, it could be a real winner with the AdSense program. If your blog isn't related to consumer products... well, it's not too late to start a new one!
